Walters House is a backland development on an under-used town centre site in Bromley. The development replaces three single-storey back-of-house extensions with a modern, high-density residential volume. with ground floor Class E unit. The architectural strategy utilises a robust masonry and concrete facade designed to respond to the materiality and solidity of the surrounding conservation area urban fabric.
The massing is carefully configured to manage the physical transition from the High Street frontage to the backland. Staggered upper-floor setbacks and integrated residential terraces are introduced to reduce the visual dominance of the building.
At ground level, the backland interface organises servicing and access, consolidating dedicated commercial deliveries, waste collection, and cycle storage. The upper levels of this rear section accommodate optimized, self-contained residential units that benefit from dual-aspect layouts and private outdoor terraces.
